I emphasize understanding of requirements, thorough design, unambiguous test cases, clear and complete documentation, careful coding with code review, confidentiality, and being available to the client. I follow a methodical development process to ensure that I'm building a solution you can use. Some may seem to crank out code more quickly, but you won't spend time debugging my code after it is in production. I provide a range of software related services that focus on doing what you need, not what others want to sell you. I adapt to your unique problems, and do my utmost to construct applications that are secure, reliable, fast, and affordable.
I have two type of clients:
- Businesses that need internal or external web sites or software developed to meet particular needs.
- Software development shops and web site design companies that need contract software development, particularly for database-driven Internet solutions.
My services include:
- Contract Software Development - Design to your requirements, or code to your design, with complete review and testing.
- Develop requirements, designs, test plans, etc. - Find out what you or your customer really need, and plan for the unexpected.
- Database-driven Web Back-ends - Specializing in Standards-based Open Source solutions using PHP, PostgreSQL and MySQL. PHP provides direct operation with these and numerous other database servers, including Oracle, Access, MS SQL Server, dBase, Firebird/InterBase, Ingres, and many others. In addition, PHP can work with any ODBC-compliant database server. I've had specific training in enhancing PHP/database performance.
- Web Site Design and Construction - Design with you in mind. Your business is unique, so I build your site from scratch for a unique look and feel. Why use someone else's templates and end up with a site that looks like everyone else's? I do make use of PHP templating tools and frameworks to separate presentation from business logic. If you have an existing site, of course I'll leverage off what you already have.
- Document Review - Let me do what everyone else hates: I'm experienced with documents from every part of the software life cycle. Experienced enough to have received customer commendations.
- Custom Application Development - Need a unique software tool, calculator, or system? From a spreadsheet-based budget planner to an order processing/inventory control database, I have the skills to make it happen.
- Embedded Software/Firmware - My past includes work on missile interceptors and NASA space station components.
- Second-opinions - Independent research and review of proposed Hardware and Software Purchases/Procurement
- Training - If I use it, I'll show you how to use it. If not, I'll recommend someone who can help you. I also offer software/web development tutoring for motivated students.
- Web-Site Content Review - Proofreading and usability study before or after you've publicly posted.
- Documentation and Instruction Manual Production - Produce manuals people can use! I can help you plan, write, and proofread new manuals, or review existing ones and provide suggestions. I can also decypher and document source code (experience gained from maintaining undocumented legacy code!).
- Review of Requirements, Design, Source Code, Test Plans, etc. - I can provide another set or two of affordable eyes.
